Romano stared uneasily around the room. The books had all settled down and every eye was firm on him.

"Well, come on up here, my boy. Come properly introduce yourself to the class." Mrs. Beetles instructed him.

The Italian boy was nervous, sweat dripped smoothly across his tanned skin as he walked up to his new teacher. Once he was beside her, he turned towards the others sitting in rows lined neatly on the tile floor.

This all had to be a trick of some sort. A trick to freak out the new kid, how nice! Well, Romano was not going to give them the satisfaction of scaring him! He stood up straight, his face going back to its normal scowl and his eyes narrowed on every strange face. "My name is Lovino Vargas. I'm from Italy and I just moved to this school with my younger brother Feliciano." He announced proudly, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Very nice, Lovino. Now, please take the empty seat beside Honda Kiku. Now, we can begin science class for the day."

Romano didn't argue, he just unwound his arms around being crossed and held his bag with his right. The only empty seat was beside the window with a Japanese looking guy on the other side. That must be his seat then.

He started towards it. Once he was seated properly and all the eyes were back on the teacher, Romano noticed a book of his own come flying onto his desk. He flinched, looking and feeling for a wire but found none.

"Page ninety one please." Mrs. Beetles chimed across the room. Her small, skinny form of pale, wrinkly skin hopping over to the chalkboard enthusiastically. The chalk pieces moved lonesome across the dark board without anyone touching them still. Powdery snow flaking off from them as they wrote and drew, the color matching the petite teacher's stringy hair and grey eyes.

Before Lovino could touch the book however, it opened and flipped easily to the correct page.

'How are they doing this!?' He thought desperately. He remembered Antonio's face when he told him it was magic. The Spanish bastard seems obviously and clumsy so how could he lie so effortlessly and make everything so believable? I can't recall seeing any hint in that beautiful, sun kissed face of that bastard that would indicate he was fibbing…wait…what! Beautiful? Sun kissed?' The Italian did not think of him like that! He couldn't! He wouldn't. He couldn't help it…

"Now," Mrs. Beetles started. "Today we're starting our lesson on the stars. Lovino, you and Kiku are now science partners. He'll tell you whatever you need help on and where everything in the classroom is. Alright, everyone, grab your partners and start reading. You have ten minutes before we all come back together."

When class was over, Lovino was greeted by the same, annoying, ringing voice with the thick Spanish accent.

"Mi amour! Your second class is mathematics, no?"

"Excuse me, teacher? Where's my partner? The awesome me can't work alone!" The Prussian complained noisily as his instructor was writing something on the board.

"Gilbert, I told you, Matthew is right behind you. Now just because you're older don't act like you're better than him or any of the other juniors." Then she turned back to finish what she was doing.

The assignment was between the seniors and juniors. The two grade's teachers picked each pair of partners and each pair had one twelfth grader and one eleventh. Apparently they had to do something together for the next few weeks.

The albino scoffed and turned, setting his elbow on the other's desk behind him. "Yo, Mattie! Your Al's bro right? How do you feel working with an awesome guy like me?" His wide mouth was curved into a sly smirk, his crimson eyes watching the timid boy in front of him.

Like always, Matt had a stuffed bear pressed against his body and hid the bottom half of his face. He blushed at the sudden greeting from the older student, his violet eyes looking away from him.

"Hey? You hear me? Man, are you okay?" Gilbert muttered, slightly annoyed. Was the most awesome him being ignored?

"S-Sorry…" Matthew replied finally, after getting fiery glares from the Prussian. "So, what should we do for our project?"

"What are you good at?" The taller man replied easily, glad to finally get something out of him, even if his voice was soft. "You are the leader guy who takes care of the animals and stuff at school, right?"

The Canadian nodded, shocked he actually knew. "Yes. That's why I got accepted here. I can talk to animals and some other weird things have been happening with my powers too but so far that's all I can actually do or control."

"Awesome, then we can do something with that! My Gilbird would be glad to help! You know him right?"

Matt nodded. "The little chick? I do. But, what do you mean we can do this?"

"For our project! We can do something with animals! You can talk to them, you are really good with taking care and helping them. Remember, last year, when my Gilbird was sick? You made him better. I never forgot that. He's my best friend. I wasn't sure what I would do without the little guy." Gilbert admitted. "So that, with my ability to fly, we could do some kind of study of birds or something."

"Oh, yeah, that could work. Should we get a baby bird or something and take care of it?"

"That's perfect! Man, you're pretty awesome too!" Gilbert mused, not noticing the blush on the Canadian's cheeks as he pushed his face into his bear once more.

"Is everything going along nicely?" The teacher came up to the two, Gilbert laughing and Matthew still faced into his bear.

"It's going awesome!" The albino grinned. "We already have our project planned out."

"Oh really? What is it?"

"This," the older boy grinned satisfactory. When he was done telling her about their plan, the teacher looked at Matthew to see if he helped come up with the project. Gilbert could be a little dominant sometimes so she liked to make sure. Though, it did seem interesting. The Canadian nodded to her and Gilbert went on. "Now, Mrs. Teach. Where exactly can we find the right baby bird?"

"Oh!" Matthew had an idea suddenly. "Instead of the pet store, there are some orphan eggs in the Animal housing building that should be hatching this week some time. Could we use those?"

"That's a great idea!" Gilbert declared. "You are one awesome thinker! All these great ideas just flow right out of you!"

The Canadian blushed, and the teacher smiled at the timid boy. "That's fine, you two. I hope it goes well. I can't wait to see how you two work together on this."

That was the last thing she got to say before the lunch bell sounded and everyone started filing out of the room.

"Hey, Mattie." Gil turned towards him again after grabbing all of his things. "Want to walk with me to the mess hall and sit next to me this time?" He asked.

The Canadian flushed again. "S-Sure, Gil. I'd like to." He answered, pulling his book bag over his shoulder as he stood up beside the Prussian and they walked out together.

When they reached the spacious room, they saw at their table Arthur and Alfred already there, sitting and talking together of course. When they made their way there with their own food, Matt sat on the other side of his brother with Gilbert on his left. It wasn't long before the rest of the gang filed in, taking up the seats and laughing together.

"Yo, Tonio! You still up with me and Francis this weekend?" Gilbert asked across the table.

"Si, Gil. Can I invite Lovi too?" The Spaniard asked, getting a smack on the shoulder by the Italian he was hosting. Obviously they sat beside each other, same as Ludwig and Feli.

"I don't want to hang out with you and your stupid ass friends!" He hissed, but the older male just laughed and patted his head lovingly.

"Totally man. Actually, I was wondering if Mattie would like to come too." Gilbert replied, before looking down at the surprised looking Canadian. "Well? You wanna hang with us Saturday?" He asked.

"Ah-um…I-I…O-Okay…" The flustered boy replied, getting a wider grin from the Prussian.

"Awesome, man! So, Mattie's coming, guys!" He announced. He laughed the entire time as he wrapped a pale arm around the younger boy with the bright blush.

When lunch was over and the hours passed, it wasn't long before dinner was along and done with for the day as well.

"Want me to walk you to your dorm? I should know where it is if we are going to work with each other on this project anyway, right? I'll tell you where mine is too." Gilbert offered, receiving a nod from the younger man, his arm wrapping back around the boy's shoulders as he let him lead the way.

"This is it." Matthew said, pushing open the door to a nice, neat room. The walls were a soft purple color and his bed had a light gray pillow cases and quilt. The carpet was the normal ivory color and he had a metal, silver desk on the corner with a laptop and papers on it.

Gilbert noticed as he walked in how nice it was and that it lingered a sweet scent, kind of like syrup.

"Sorry, it's not much." He set the stuffed bear and his book bag on the floor beside the bed and turned to the albino, noticing him staring at him quietly.

"No," Gilbert said. "It's nice. Actually, it's really relaxing with these colors and everything. I like it."

"O-Oh…Thank you. You are the first person to say that, but then again I don't have many guests besides my brother, Francis and sometimes Arthur." He shrugged, grabbing small, blank paper and a pen. "Your dorm number?"

"Oh yeah, sure thing." Gilbert remembered, writing down forty eight onto the little sticky note.

Matthew took it, throwing it back on the desk and watched his project partner look around his room again.

"What's this?" He asked, grabbing a bag of food that was on the ground. "Pet food? You have a dog or something in here?"

"Oh, no. Not a dog. Um…Um…Kumajiro? You here?" That was a silly question, the Canadian thought, looking around still. A faint shuffling noise was heard and a white creature moved from under the bed. "This is Kumajiro. He's my pet polar bear, but he won't get any bigger." Matt explained, grabbing the thing and holding it in his arms.

"Oh, dude, wow! You have a pet bear? That's so awesome!" Gilbert exclaimed, putting the bag back down and running over. He lifted his hand, stroking the bear across the top of his head. It was so soft…

This wasn't planned. He was only supposed to walk the boy to his dorm so he'd know where it is and the number for their project. But, Gilbert found himself staying there for a few hours after that, playing with the furry, white bear and talking with Mattie. When he did finally leave, he realized how nice and kind the younger male was and how little he ever knew about him since he had learned so much just before.

"See you later, Mattie!" He waved, and closed the door quietly behind him. As he made his way towards his own dorm, the moon was already coming up though the light poles gleamed down on him to guide his way. When he reached his own bright, red walled room, he still smelled of the sweet scent that Matt did and his room. He flopped on his crimson bed, feeling the little chick he named Gilbird fly onto him and heard him tweeting to him as it landed on his head. He reached up to pet the thing, grinning some.

"Hey, Gilbird? Would you believe it? The awesome me has a crush on someone. His name's Matthew Williams. Remember him from last year? Yeah…that's him."
